Press Arrangements for IAEA General Conference

Senior representatives of the 140 member states of the International Atomic Energy Organization will meet at the Austria Centre in Vienna on Monday, 18 September, for the five-day IAEA annual General Conference to discuss major issues facing the organization. The meeting also marks the IAEA´s 50th anniversary and will include a special event on "New Framework for Assurances of Nuclear Supply and Non-Proliferation."

All plenary sessions of the General Conference and the Assurances of Nuclear Supply Special Event, 19 - 21 September will be open to the press. The event aims to stimulate discussion on a new framework to strengthen controls over access to sensitive nuclear fuel cycle technology, such as uranium enrichment and plutonium reprocessing.

A special exhibition, showcasing the IAEA´s multi-faceted work to protect the air, earth and the ocean through nuclear applications, will officially be opened by Director General Mohamed ElBaradei and Prince Albert II of Monaco, on 19 September. It will illustrate the many ways in which the IAEA supports sustainable environmental management around the world. The exhibit will be on display for the duration of the General Conference.

The events will take place at the Austria Center, Bruno-Kreisky-Platz 1, 1220 Vienna.

IAEA public information staff will be on hand to assist media representatives in the press working area on floor 01, starting from 08:00 a.m. on Monday, 18 September 2006.
