General Conference Day 5 Highlights

The 63rd IAEA General Conference concluded yesterday (see this article  summarizing the resolutions), but several scheduled Conference side events and other activities took place today.

The following side events took place on Friday:

At the 10th Plenary of the Regulatory Cooperation Forum (RCF) event, delegates were informed about processes and tools to ensure the safe operations of nuclear facilities. This meeting also provided an opportunity for information exchange and experience- sharing among newcomers and countries with operating experience.

Delegations at the Advances in PGET Use for Nuclear Safeguards event, received a demonstration on the Passive Gamma Emission Tomography (PGET) system that is used to help verify the peaceful uses of nuclear material.

Other news

Representatives of the African Regional Co-operative Agreement for Research, Development and Training Related to Nuclear Science and Technology (AFRA) met today. At this annual meeting the group endorsed recommendations from the AFRA Technical Working Group Meeting, endorsed the IAEA Annual Report and also discussed any new policy and strategic matters related to AFRA.
