TC Success Stories

Adequate and affordable energy is central to sustainable development and the reduction of poverty. The IAEA is the only UN agency that provides Member States with support for comprehensive energy assessment and planning, which may include the nuclear option. IAEA technical cooperation projects help Member States to identify and plan for their energy requirements by providing support to national institutions in comprehensive energy planning. Comparative assessments of different sources of electricity generation are used to attain the optimal energy mix, which may include consideration of the nuclear option.

For countries that are interested in making nuclear power part of their sustainable development strategy, the IAEA offers a broad range of programmes to help Member States meet the challenge of building the necessary national nuclear infrastructure. Technical cooperation projects provide planning and management tools and equipment, including simulators for training, and capacity building enables improved performance and quality assurance for Member States that use or intend to use nuclear energy for electricity generation, desalination or research.
