The IAEA to host World Cancer Day event on 4 February 2014

World Cancer Day is marked annually on the 4 February. This year’s theme ‘Debunk the Myths’ allows for an opportunity to improve general knowledge about cancer and to dispel misconceptions.

The IAEA will be hosting a high level panel discussion at IAEA headquarters in Vienna on 4 February, focusing on this theme. The event will highlight the IAEA’s commitment to cancer initiatives in low and middle income Member States and raise awareness of the IAEA’s cancer control activities.

The panel will be moderated by Ms Julie Torode, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), whose organization is responsible for World Cancer Day. The distinguished panellists are:

• HE Ms Ana Teresa Dengo,  Ambassador to Austria and the Resident Representative 
of the Permanent Mission of Costa Rica
• Dr Hania Morsi Fadl, Founder and Chairman of the Khartoum Breast Cancer Centre,  Sudan
• Professor Ian Olver, Chief Executive Officer, Cancer Council Australia
• Dr James F Cleary, Associate Professor of Medicine (Medical Oncology), University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, United States of America

The event takes place at 12:00pm, Tuesday 4 February 2014, in the foyer of the ground floor of the M building, IAEA Headquarters, Vienna, Austria.
