Preparations for the IAEA’s 56th General Conference are under way: what to expect from the IAEA’s technical cooperation programme

TC exhibition at the 55th IAEA General Conference
In preparation for the IAEA’s 56th General Conference to be held in Vienna at the Vienna International Centre, from 17 to 21 September 2012, the Department of Technical Cooperation (TC) is making arrangements to host a One House exhibition jointly with the Department of Nuclear Sciences and Applications (NA) and the Department of Nuclear Energy (NE).

The One House exhibition has been prepared to showcase the areas where the IAEA contributes to sustainable development. The joint exhibition consists of six eye-catching wall displays and reflects the IAEA’s work in the fields of human health, agriculture and food security, energy, waste, water and oceans, and the environment and industrial applications. The exhibition also illustrates the technologies used to address the challenges in these fields.

The exhibition area will be located on the ground floor of the M Building throughout the conference. It will also serve as the location for the reception of the IAEA side event on ‘Nuclear Technology for a Sustainable Future’ taking place on Thursday, 20 September 2012, at 16:30-18:00 in room M4.

Conference participants are encouraged to visit the joint exhibition to explore the IAEA’s development efforts. Attractive postcards showing the different development areas addressed on the displays are available at the exhibit.

To share success stories about the IAEA’s technical cooperation projects and the delivery of the IAEA support, the TC Department will present a separate exhibition on the IAEA’s technical cooperation programme on the first floor, M01, across from the Plenary. The display area will be shared with the exhibits of the Departments of NA and NE, which will provide detailed information on the technical support provided by the IAEA to its Member States.

IAEA staff from different fields of expertise will be available at both exhibitions to answer the questions of conference participants and to provide insight to the IAEA’s work.

Exhibition material will be available at the joint exhibition area as well as at the individual Departmental exhibitions. Information about technical cooperation activities can be picked up at the TC exhibition, alongside the new TC success stories and the 2011 TC Report. Both are also available online at:

Don’t forget to pick up the new TC postcard, featuring the winner of the TC photography competition.

In celebration of the 40th anniversary of the RCA, a panel discussion will be held on Tuesday, 18 September 2012, in room M7 to mark the RCA’s successes. The RCA exhibition in the Rotunda will be officially opened at 13:30.

TC is cooperating in a side event with the IAEA Response and Assistance Network (RANET), titled ‘Experience of Use in Providing International Assistance’ The event will serve to present the RANET network, share important experiences in emergency international assistance using RANET, and encourage Member State registration in RANET. The event will take place on Thursday 20 September 2012 in MOE79, from 15:15 to 18:00.
