Press Arrangements for 64th IAEA General Conference, starting 21 September 2020

6/2020
Vienna, Austria

The 64th Annual Regular Session of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) General Conference, #IAEAGC, will convene from 21 September 2020 at the Vienna International Centre (VIC) in Vienna, Austria. High-ranking officials and representatives from IAEA Member States will consider and make decisions on a range of issues pertaining to the work and the budget of the Agency.

In view of the current coronavirus restrictions, this year’s General Conference will have significantly fewer physical participants than in previous years. Many Member States will deliver their national statements virtually. The side events will also be held entirely virtually.

Media are reminded to adhere to all mandatory COVID-19 related measures such as physical distancing and wearing protective face masks on VIC premises, while working in the Press Room, exiting and entering all gates, in all security areas and in personal interactions with VIC personnel.

This year’s Scientific Forum, to be held on the sidelines of the General Conference on 22 and 23 September, is entitled Nuclear Power and the Clean Energy Transition. It will be held in a hybrid format with limited physical attendance and mainly virtual presentations.

Details of the General Conference and the Scientific Forum, including the provisional agenda, are available on the IAEA website and social media (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn). Photos of the GC will also be available on Flickr.

The main conference events will take place in the M-Building of the VIC, except for the Scientific Forum, which will take place in Boardroom D of the C-Building. Due to restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic, only a limited number of photographers and video camera operators will be allowed to enter the plenary sessions of the General Conference and the Scientific Forum.

All plenary sessions of the General Conference and the Scientific Forum will be streamed live on the IAEA website (no login required).

The Press Room on the M-building's ground floor will be available as a press working area from 08:30 CEST on 21 September.

Accreditation:

Due to restrictions related to COVID-19, annual VIC accreditations are currently not valid. All journalists who plan to attend the General Conference need to request accreditation by 12:00 CEST on Friday, 18 September. Accreditations will be valid for 21 September only and needs to be requested for additional days.

Access to the plenary sessions of the General Conference and the Scientific Forum for photographers and video camera operators must be requested in advance.

Please email Ms Michelle Gruensteidl, m.gruensteidl@iaea.org, and copy press@iaea.org.

One-day press badges of pre-accredited journalists can be collected from the Registration Desk at Gate 1 upon presentation of a photo-ID from Monday 21 September to Wednesday 23 September 2020. Please plan accordingly.
