On 5 February 2018, the IAEA and the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia concluded Practical Arrangements on enhancing technical cooperation among developing countries and strengthening South-South cooperation. Mr Yukiya Amano (IAEA Director General) and Mr Mohamad Nasir (Indonesian Minister for Research, Technology and Higher Education) participated in the official signing ceremony in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The Practical Arrangements cover a three-year period (2018-2021), providing a framework for the two parties’ relationship and identifying the following activities in which cooperation may be pursued:
- Provision of short- and long-term graduate and post-graduate education programmes and training programmes in the fields of food and agriculture (including plant mutation breeding, soil and nutrient management, animal health and production); industrial applications and non-destructive testing; radiation and nuclear safety; nuclear regulatory infrastructure; radiological and emergency preparedness; radiation processing; radiation medicine; marine and terrestrial environmental monitoring and management; radioactive waste management; and research reactor applications;
- Provision of experts and lecturers to conduct education and training programmes and advisory missions to other developing countries including least developed countries and small island developing states); and
- Use of laboratory analytical facilities in Indonesia to conduct collaborative activities.
