60th IAEA General Conference

The Scientific Forum on how nuclear technology can help achieve the sustainable development goals (SDGs) takes place on 28-29 September 2016 in Board Room D, C-Building, 4^th Floor, in the Vienna International Centre (VIC). The Forum is being held in conjunction with the General Conference.

Prince Albert II of Monaco is a strong supporter of the IAEA's work and a dedicated campaigner for the protection of our planet's natural resources. During the Scientific Forum he held a speech to raise the awareness on marine protection issues and highlighted the long-standing cooperation between his Principality and the Agency. Watch video →

When the new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were adopted in September 2015 at the United Nations in New York, they highlighted the importance of science and technology. The IAEA, through nuclear science, plays a significant role in the achievement of many of these goals. The IAEA's Scientific Forum on Nuclear Technology for the Sustainable Development Goals opened today. Highlighting the goals related to health, hunger, energy and the environment, the two-day forum will focus on how nuclear technology contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), contributing to the well-being of people, help protect the planet and boost prosperity. Nuclear technology can play a significant role in the achievement of many of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially in the fields of health, food security, energy and the environment. To illustrate the IAEA’s support to Member States in these areas, the Agency has launched a new series of nine short videos.
