NUCLEAR ENERGY MANAGEMENT SCHOOL
Safe and efficient generation of electricity and other energy services, and the diversity of nuclear applications point to the ongoing need for a global cadre of competent nuclear professionals. The IAEA Nuclear Energy Management School contributes to help Member States meet this need.
Participants of each IAEA NEM School interact and learn from a mix of some of the best specialists in the global nuclear community and from the IAEA’s own experts. Each School provides a series of lectures delivered by experienced international speakers that address topics such as nuclear law, nuclear technologies, nuclear safety and safety culture, nuclear licensing and regulation, nuclear hazards and risks and their management, nuclear policy, past nuclear accidents, and nuclear security and safeguards issues. An overview of nuclear energy challenges and policy issues is provided, covering the management context over the entire technology lifecycle.
The IAEA NEM School is offered in a 2-week programme format following a standard curriculum. It is held annually in cooperation with the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) at Trieste, Italy. Upon request, and in cooperation with a Member State, a regional NEM School can be organized (recent examples are the NEM Schools in Japan, UAE, and USA).
The programme is well-suited for both developed and developing countries including countries embarking on nuclear energy programmes. It is targeted at junior to mid-career professionals working in nuclear organizations who show some managerial interest and leadership potential. It will provide them with knowledge to better understand the organizational and international context of the nuclear energy sector and prepare them to work at a higher level in their organizations. Some time is devoted to participant experience sharing, discussion and debate, and case study team project work.
Three reasons for attending this school:
- the school curriculum covers the most important topics related to the nuclear energy sector.
- the faculty of internationally recognized experts is unrivalled in the nuclear world. You are guaranteed to be learning from some of the finest minds in the field.
- it is a unique opportunity to broaden your horizons and meet people interested in nuclear energy from all over the world.
