Prof. Dr. Abdulkadir Balikçi, President of Turkish Energy, Nuclear and Mineral Research Agency, and Mr Hua Liu, IAEA Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Technical Cooperation, signed Türkiye’s Country Programme Framework (CPF) for the period of 2024–2029 on 26 September 2023. A CPF is the frame of reference for the medium-term planning of technical cooperation between a Member State and the IAEA and identifies priority areas where the transfer of nuclear technology and technical cooperation resources will be directed to support national development goals.
Türkiye has been an IAEA Member State since 1957. Its 2024–2029 CPF identifies 10 priority areas:
- Nuclear energy
- Radioactive waste and spent fuel management
- Nuclear and radiation safety and security
- Emergency preparedness and response
- Nuclear knowledge management and capacity building
- Industrial involvement
- Human health and nutrition
- Radiation applications
- Isotope and radiation technology
- Gender mainstreaming
