The IAEA's Incident and Emergency Centre (IEC) has been working around the clock since the massive earthquake and tsunami triggered an emergency at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in Japan. Based at the IAEA's headquarters in Vienna, Austria, the IEC is the global focal point for preparedness and response to nuclear and radiological incidents and emergencies. Elena Buglova, IEC Head, discusses the IEC's response to the Fukushima accident and its impact on the IAEA's work to respond to possible future incidents and emergencies.
