Science and technology are crucial for development. Nuclear science plays a significant role in the achievement of many of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially in the fields of health, hunger, energy and the environment. Radiation medicine plays an essential role in the diagnosis and management of a wide range of diseases, including cancer. However, access to radiation medicine with adequate quality assurance is limited in many countries.
The 2016 IAEA Scientific Forum highlights the contribution of nuclear technology to the SDGs.
