Radiometrics Laboratory (RML) Research
RML contributes to sustainable development in Member States through the use of nuclear techniques to better understand and protect the marine environment and climate. On request/invitation of Member States RML participates in sea-going missions and field studies. RML is applying natural and artificial radionuclides to understand and to quantify oceanographic processes. Such investigations contribute to e.g. the GEOTRACES programme, an international study of the global marine biogeochemical cycles of trace elements and their isotopes. Nuclear techniques are also used to assess the environmental status of coastal ecosystems, to better understand diverse aspect of Climate Change and to validate climate models which trace past conditions of the world climate.
