Regional (AFRA) Training Course on the International Nuclear Information (INIS), Rabat, Morocco, May 2011
The International Atomic Energy Agency organised, in cooperation with the Government of the Kingdom of Morocco and hosted by the Centre National de L'Energie des Sciences et des Techniques Nucléaires (CNESTEN), the Regional (AFRA) Training Course on the International Nuclear Information System (INIS), in Rabat, Morocco, from 16 - 27 May 2011.
Twenty-two participants from twenty AFRA Member States attended this regional course.
Part of the Regional AFRA Project RAF/0/031, Promoting Human Resources Development and Nuclear Knowledge Management (AFRA), the two-week training course was open to participants from AFRA Member States that are INIS members.
The course provided comprehensive information about the role of INIS in supporting national nuclear activities and programmes. In depth hands-on training on all aspects of INIS input preparation and the utilization of INIS products and services was offered. Additionally, the course addressed in detail the important role of the national INIS centre, INIS promotion and outreach, the provision of information services,as well as the need to establish regional cooperation among national INIS centres of AFRA Member States.
Site visits to well established information centres were also undertaken. This enabled participants not only to learn established best practices but also helped facilitate and encourage networking among AFRA Members.
In addition to lectures, the course fostered information exchange by promoting active discussion among participants. Practical sessions, consisting of hands-on training using computer training facilities were the main teaching approach.
