INIS Training Seminar 2013
7 October 2013 - The 2013 INIS Training Seminar started on Monday, 7 October, and will last until Friday, 11 October 2013. It is being held at the IAEA Headquarters in Vienna. Representatives from 18 INIS Member States, namely Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, China, Cuba, Egypt, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Japan, Republic of Korea, Lebanon, Pakistan, Russian Federation, Slovak Republic, Syrian Arab Republic, Tajikistan, Uruguay, and Vietnam are taking part in this training seminar.
The opening address was given by Mr Savic, Head of the IAEA Nuclear Information Section. Four and a half days of training sessions will concentrate on bibliographic description for INIS Collection input, the use of Fibre+ as a software input tool, journal authority maintenance, electronic information exchange, INIS input submission, OCR, digitization and preparation of non-conventional literature (NCL) documents, subject analysis, indexing, use of the INIS Thesaurus, INIS Collection search, principles of information retrieval and query formulation, as well as on the sources of national literature, and a role of the national INIS Centre and the INIS Secretariat. A tour of the IAEA Library and a presentation on the International Nuclear Library Network (INLN) are also planned. A total of 17 presentations will be delivered by 13 INIS presenters, followed by many practical sessions.
The Scientific Secretary for the 2013 INIS Training Seminar is Ms Atieh, Head of the INIS Unit, who spoke on the opening day about the roles of the National INIS Centre and the INIS Secretariat.
