Second Review Meeting of the Contracting Parties to the Joint Convention

There will be a press briefing on Wednesday, 24 May 2006 at 10.30 a.m., in B0438 to report on the second review meeting of the Joint Convention on the Safety of Spent Fuel Management and on the Safety of Radioactive Waste Management.

The number of Contracting Parties to the Joint Convention, which entered into force in 2001, now includes almost all countries with significant nuclear programmes.

The Convention applies to the safety of spent fuel and radioactive waste resulting from civilian uses.

Transcript of Director General´s Remarks at Conclusion of IAEA Board Meeting - 8 March 2006

The Board has, as you know, completed its consideration of the Iran issue. I guess you got the flavour of the different views expressed during the discussion. However, I can say that there are common threads that go throughout the discussion. The first, that Iran needs to continue to be more transparent working with the Agency. I think there is complete agreement that Iran needs to go the extra mile and work with us. Nobody would be more happy than I when we are able to conclude that all the outstanding issues in Iran´s nuclear programme have been clarified.

The 35-nation IAEA Board of Governors will convene a regular meeting in the Agency´s Vienna Headquarters on Monday, 6 March 2006. Director General Mohamed ElBaradei will open the meeting with an introductory statement at 10:30, in the IAEA Boardroom, C04, in the Vienna International Centre.

IAEA Board to Hold Special Meeting on Iran on 2 February 2006

A special meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors will be held on Thursday, 2 February 2006, at 10:30 a.m., in the IAEA Boardroom C04 at the Vienna International Centre.

The meeting was requested by the Permanent Missions of France, Germany and the United Kingdom in a letter on 18 January 2006 to the Chair of the Board to discuss the implementation of IAEA Safeguards in Iran and related Board resolutions.

Press Arrangements for IAEA Board of Governors Meeting

The 24 November 2005 meeting of the Board of Governors will be preceded by a three-day meeting of the Technical Assistance and Cooperation Committee (TACC), convening on Monday, 21 November 2005. The 24 November meeting of the Board will discuss the TACC report, following an introductory statement by the Director General; nuclear verification and proposals for disbursement of the Agency´s monetary award from the Nobel Peace Prize for 2005; as well as any other business. The meeting will be held in the IAEA Boardroom on CO4.

International Symposium on Trends in Radiopharmaceuticals

There will be a press briefing on Monday, 14 November 2005 at 10.15 a.m. in the Press Briefing Room C03, in the Vienna International Centre about the continuing advances of a nuclear technique that is revolutionizing medical diagnostics. It follows the opening of the IAEA organized International Symposium on Trends in Radiopharmaceuticals at 09.30 a.m. in the IAEA Board Room on C04. The Symposium is open to the press.

IAEA Board of Governors to Meet 14 October on Occasion of Nobel Peace Prize to IAEA and Dr. ElBaradei

The IAEA's 35-nation Board of Governors will convene for a special meeting this Friday on the occasion of the Nobel Peace Prize for 2005, which was awarded jointly to the IAEA and its Director General, Dr. Mohamed ElBaradei.

The meeting will start at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, 14 October, in the IAEA Boardroom, C04, in the Vienna International Centre.

The Nobel Peace Prize is the only item on the agenda.

The meeting is closed to the press.
