Press Arrangements for Special Session of IAEA General Conference, 2 December 2019

14/2019

A Special Session of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) General Conference will be held on Monday, 2 December, to approve the appointment of the new Director General, Rafael Mariano Grossi.

On 30 October, the 35-member IAEA Board of Governors appointed by acclamation Mr Grossi as Director General, to serve for four years from 3 December 2019. In accordance with the Agency’s statute, the appointment also needs to be approved by the IAEA General Conference, which consists of representatives of all 171 IAEA Member States.

The Special Session will convene at 10:00 CET in Boardroom B, on the first floor of the M-building in the Vienna International Centre (VIC). The Special Session will be streamed live (no login required).

Newly-appointed IAEA Director General Grossi is expected to hold a press conference outside Boardroom B after the morning plenary session ends around noon CET. The press conference will be streamed live here.

Details of the Special Session, including the provisional agenda, are available on the IAEA website. Updates will be shared on Twitter (#IAEAGC) and Facebook. IAEA photos will be available on Flickr.

Press Working Area:

The area outside Boardroom A on the second floor of the M-Building will be available as a press working area starting from 08:30 CET on 2 December with high-capacity WiFi available (no password required).

Accreditation:

All journalists are requested to inform the IAEA Press Office of their plans to attend at press@iaea.org.

Journalists with permanent credentials to the VIC need no additional credentials. We encourage those journalists who do not yet have permanent accreditation to request it at UNIS Vienna.

Other journalists wishing to cover the conference should send an email to press@iaea.org with a copy of their press ID and passport for accreditation.
