IAEA Supports Nuclear Medicine and Radiology Experts in their Professional Development Online

,

Two of the biggest annual events for the nuclear medicine and diagnostic imaging community will take place this month – this time virtually and with free access provided by the IAEA. Over two weeks in July, the IAEA is enabling free participation for professionals from low- and middle-income countries to access the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) Annual Meeting, and has provided 770 professionals with access to attend the online European Congress of Radiology (ECR).

The COVID-19 pandemic, which has altered the working conditions for many, will be among the topics discussed at the meetings. The IAEA initiative aims to help bring together professionals in a fully interactive way.

“This is a unique opportunity to support colleagues from around the world and have the chance to access high educational content during this COVID-19 pandemic,” said Diana Paez, Head of the Nuclear Medicine and Diagnostic Imaging Section at the IAEA. “Continuing professional development is essential to maintain the competencies required to provide quality patient care and providing access to the SNMMI Annual Meeting and ECR 2020 conference will help colleagues stay up-to-date on new clinical applications and technological developments.”

The SNMMI Annual Meeting (SNMMI-2020 virtual edition) will take place from 11 to 14 July and the ECR 2020 Summer Edition from 15 to 19 July. While the IAEA has facilitated free livestreaming to the main sessions of the SNMMI Annual Meeting and ECR before, this year the access will extend to the entire repertoire of sessions and activities while enabling full virtual interaction.

At the SNMMI annual meeting participants can virtually attend interactive sessions with specialists in the field and through its attendance can earn 25 hours of continuing medical education (CME) credits. The event will give attendees access to a virtual science pavilion showcasing the latest research, an interactive exhibition hall and various networking events. Recordings of the meetings will be made available to participants for a year following the events.

“This collaboration to provide free access to SNMMI 2020 is based on a partnership between the IAEA and SNMMI to make more educational programmes available to professionals around the world,” said Vasken Dilsizian, President of SNMMI. “We are committed to strengthening the practice of nuclear medicine and molecular imaging.”

At ECR 2020, participants will have access to all educational programmes and the event’s virtual exhibition. The Congress will host over 100 lecturers, presenters and interactive sessions. In total, attendees can earn 28 CME credits. In addition, all Highlight Weeks in 2020, focusing on specific topics, can be viewed live or accessed on-demand.

“Thanks to the strength of our ongoing collaboration with the IAEA, I am delighted that we are able to provide free access to ECR 2020 online to IAEA members in low- and middle-income countries,” said Boris Brkljacic, Chairman of the European Society of Radiology Board of Directors and ECR 2020 Congress President.
