The IAEA trained authorities in Poland how to detect and respond to potential acts of nuclear terrorism, in advance of the UEFA EURO 2012 football championship. There is always the risk that major public events could be targeted for criminal acts involving nuclear and other radioactive materials. The IAEA helps its Member States to prevent such acts by training firemen, police officers and border guards how to quickly detect, identify and bring radioactive sources under control.
