This publication describes requirements for and provides guidance (mostly gained by waste management agencies in the European Union and the USA) on quality assurance in the field of radioactive waste conditioning, from both the technological and regulatory points of view. It provides a logical basis for the application of quality assurance to the waste conditioning process, including container manufacture, waste immobilization and packaging, and to interrelated interim storage, transportation and disposal processes, with the purpose of ensuring the level of confidence required by the organizations concerned.
