How can workers be protected from natural radiation?

Video: Svetlomir Slavchev, story: Lenka Dojcanova

Minerals, ores and other raw materials are mined and processed in many countries. Some may contain naturally occurring radioactive material, known as NORM. Physical and chemical processing can increase the concentration of NORM. Those who work with these materials may be exposed to ionizing radiation at levels which require control through regulation. To help protect workers from NORM, the IAEA offers guidance for relevant industries. It also shares good practices with Member States, and provides training and expertise.
