Time has come to say goodbye.
Having spent five years with the IAEA, it is time to return to my parent organization, the United Nations. We have been working together since 2008 and it has been an eventful three years. At the 34th ILO meeting in 2008, we knew that the database was in peril and we were going to have to make some consequential decisions to sustain it for future generations. The progress we have made is extraordinary: In 2009, we opened access to the INIS database for free on the Internet and, in 2011, full text documents became directly searchable on the web. Within 10 months, the number of searches increased tenfold.
This success is a tribute to you, the ILOs, and to all women and men that work in INIS Centres around the world. Creating a database of such size and relevance is not a simple feat and would not be possible without the dedication and professionalism of all staff involved in this endeavour, be it here at the IAEA or at the INIS Centres around the world.
I thank you for your advice, your support and your strategic thinking: You will maintain a course that will keep INIS headed in the right direction for decades to come. I wish you every success in this undertaking.

The 35th Consultative Meeting of INIS Liaison Officers

Sixty-eight delegates from sixty two member countries or member organizations participated in the 35th Consultative Meeting of INIS Liaison Officers, held on the 28th- 29th of October 2010 in Vienna. The meeting was devoted to the 40 years anniversary of INIS and directions for the future, as well as INIS input and production or the use and effectiveness of INIS.

New INIS collection search capability

Over 3.3 million bibliographic records and more than 280,000 full-text non-conventional documents are now fully indexed and searchable on the Internet using Google-based technology, thanks to a new INIS web search interface launched on the 18th of April 2011. Following a recommendation of the 35th ILO meeting, the Google Search Appliance is now used as the underlining search technology for the entire INIS collection.

Regional (AFRA) Training Course on the International Nuclear Information (INIS), Rabat, Morocco, May 2011

The International Atomic Energy Agency organised, in cooperation with the Government of the Kingdom of Morocco and hosted by the Centre National de L' Energie des Sciences et des Techniques Nucléaires (CNESTEN), the Regional (AFRA) Training Course on the International Nuclear Information System (INIS), in Rabat, Morocco, from 16 - 27 May 2011.

INIS 2010 Highlights

2010 was an important year for INIS, marking the first forty years of INIS operations. The many important developments and progress that took place throughout the year are highlighted here.

The 13th INIS/ETDE Joint Technical Committee Meeting

On the 20th – 21st of October 2011, the 13th INIS/ETDE Joint Technical Committee Meeting will be held in Vienna. Delegates from more than a dozen ETDE and INIS Member States are expected to participate in this two-day meeting.

INIS Training Seminar in Vienna, Austria in November 2011

The INIS Training Seminar will be held at IAEA Headquarters in Vienna, Austria on 14 - 16 November 2011. The training seminar will focus on INIS input preparation, the utilization of INIS products and services, and on ways to promote the system to users in member states.
