39th Annual International Bazaar

Bazaar opened with a bang: the Korean Drummers certainly woke us all up and got proceedings going. The stage in the National Stalls area was used for the Tombola draw at 15:00 when some of our major donors drew the tickets which won their prizes and was busy through out the day with a variety of groups, Kalinushka-Russian Folkloric group, Rainergymnasium Choir, North and South Folk Duo, Polish school choir, Polish Hot swing quartet.

It is amazing watching the public descend on Bazaar; many people are heading for the stalls they visit every year. Some are heading for our White Elephant boutique to see the amazing bargains, some to get the more unusual exotic holiday gifts which are only available at Bazaar. There are too many stalls to mention individually but every one of our customers has a few favourites. The Restaurant Stalls area was a 'must' for our visitors. Here you could taste the special food from more than 30 countries.

Our Tombola prizes are appreciated enormously; the retired lady who won the Fiat car was thrilled at the difference it would make to her life. The people flying off to Malaysia for a super holiday and those heading to Canada and all our other destinations must have been very happy but the prize people were vying to win was the giant cuddly koala!!

The Surprise Corner was very popular with people trying very hard to win the prizes they most wanted (not always the high value prizes but the ones that they liked the look). All our stalls and our Tombola and Surprise Corner show the amazing generosity there is in the World and in particular here in Vienna. 

Our major donors have been loyal supporters for a number of years and their generosity keeps our Tombola and Surprise corner afloat. Our special ladies who work hard getting donations every year are so important to us, both for the UNWG stalls and for the individual Country Stalls. However it is so heart warming to get calls from people we haven’t actually approached and to be offered donations spontaneously because they have heard of the work we do. We have people who donate their very hard work and their special resources and their extra special time year after year, these are the people who make the Bazaar come to life by getting everything set up and delivered to the Austria Center. We in the Guild thank these people yet again. If you haven’t had an individual Thank You then remember that we do appreciate you and we hope to work with you as a team to raise even more money for children in our 40th Bazaar in 2008.
