Notes:
The development and validation of methods play an indispensable role in residues analysis. Methods have to be practical, cost effective and designed to generate data fit for their intended purpose.
In validating a screening method for unlicensed substances aim to demonstrate that the method is capable of discriminating between samples containing a residue and those not containing that residue. Where an MRL is set, the method should discriminate between samples containing residues above and below a set limit (normally at 0.5 x MRL).
. Using probability plots, it is possible to demonstrate that the method is fit for its intended purpose, and to estimate the numbers of false positives and false negatives.
