Immunoassays have played an important role in minimising the running costs of surveillance schemes. Enzyme immunoassays (EIAs), both compound-specific and generic, have been developed for a wide range of analytes. Radioimmunoassays are employed for some of the prohibited steroids, giving extremely low detection limits that are difficult to match by other techniques.
