Notes:
An example of a microbiological screening assay is the EU recognised Four Plate Assay. Such assays are relatively rapid and cheap. They are ideal where the purpose is simply to identify the presence of an antimicrobial compound. Some natural substances can cause inhibition as well and therefore further analysis is needed to see if the inhibition is caused by an antibiotic.
