Notes:
To achieve a balance between speed and cost, the samples are batched for analysis using a tiered approach:
- Screening methods in which samples are rapidly processed for the absence of the analyte (or possibly the absence above a certain level).
- Quantitative methods capable of meeting pre-defined levels of accuracy and precision.
- Confirmatory methods in which the identity of the analyte and its concentration are found with a higher level of confidence.
In practice, a combination of methods are used to produce the final result.
