An international training workshop “Advanced instrumental techniques in pesticide residue analysis” will be held within the programme of FAO/IAEA Training and Reference Centre for Food and Pesticide Control in the IAEA Seibersdorf Laboratories.Date: 7-18 October 2002.
Objectives of the training course is to demonstrate the applicability of advanced analytical techniques including among others LC-MS/MS, solid phase micro extraction, accelerated solvent extraction / microwave assisted solvent extraction, rapid analysis with GC-TOF, application of Retention Time Locking System for analysis of trace organic contaminants. Principles of sampling and quality assurance quality control will also be discussed. The invited specialists and the experts of leading manufacturers will give lectures and lead practical demonstrations on the relevant subjects. Experienced analysts having managerial responsibilities are invited to participate from 16 countries from Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America.
The training course is jointly organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)

Questionnaire for potential participants in the programme “Quality control of pesticide products”
Future workshops will be organised on pesticide residue analysis, mycotoxin analysis quality control of pesticide products depending on the interest
of Member States and availability of budget. Date and time of workshops will be announced at the Home Page of the FAO/IAEA Training and Reference Centre for Food and Pesticide Control and trough the adhering national organisations of FAO and IAEA.
The training courses are open for qualified analysts who are working in laboratories performing official control on behalf of their Governments.
The nominations may be submitted by the Heads of nominating institutions through the FAO Representative, FAO National Committee or National Atomic Energy Authority.
The nominations together with the completed questionnaire and Language Proficiency Certificate, issued by a language school or cultural institution or the British Embassy, should be sent to:

Advanced nominations by facsimile or e-mail are welcomed.
Qualification: The minimum requirements are: BSc degree in chemistry, 2 years experience in pesticide formulation analysis, sufficient knowledge in English to be able to follow the course and to express themselves in that language.
Acceptance of nominations: The nominating institutions will be informed about the forthcoming workshops a minimum of 4 month in advance, and about the final selection
of participants 2 months before the workshop.
The eligible participants who cannot be accepted for the first training course because of space limitations will be kept on record and will be considered for training at future courses.
Administrative and financial arrangements: The training will be provided free of charge by FAO and IAEA. The travel cost, living expenses, accommodation, and
health and accident insurance of the participants shall be born by the nominating governments. Limited funds are available to support participants from least developed countries.
The organisers of the training do not accept liability for the payment of any cost or compensation that may arise from damage to or loss of personal property, or from illness, injury,
disability or death of a participant while he/she is travelling to and from Austria. The Governments nominating participants are responsible for undertaking responsibility for such coverage.
