Food Safety Specialist Food and Environmental Protection Section
Food Safety Specialist (P-4) to support Member States in developing quality control mechanisms in the area of food and environmental protection, to provide technical advice to support efforts towards research activities, technology transfer and laboratory accreditation and certification in Member States and to organize training activities, write guidelines, protocols, standard operating procedures and related technical documents. Deadline for applications: 18 November 2003.

INternational FOod Contaminant and Residue Information System (INFOCRIS)

INFOCRIS is an electronic, multimedia compendium of food contaminants and analytical methodologies to support Codex and the SPS Agreements. Functions include glossary, references, slide shows, method validation reporting service and a global editing tool called DocMaster. English and eventually Spanish will be supported. You can search for microbes, mycotoxins, pesticides, radionuclides and veterinary drugs and obtain information about sampling, methods of analysis, toxicology, references and much more. In May, 2003 important new features were added including mapping and distance learning functions. Research Co-ordination Meetings (RCMs)

The 3rd RCM of the co-ordinated research project on Classification of Soil Systems based on Transfer Factors of Radionuclides from Soil to Reference Plants will be held in Crete September 22-26, 2003. See the agenda for further information.

Workshops

An FAO IAEA workshop will be held September 27-29, 2003 in Crete on a practical integrated approach to agricultural countermeasures for enhancing food safety and security following a nuclear or radiological emergency in conjunction with the Departments of Nuclear Safety and Technical Co-operation. The theme of the workshop is multi-disciplinary teamwork & harmonized templates to integrate emergency response and long-term post-action management. For further information see the prospectus.
