Mr Kwaku Aning, Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Technical Cooperation, took up his position on 1 January 2011.

Prior to his current appointment at the Agency, Mr Aning served as the Director and Secretary of the Policy Making Organs of the IAEA (the Board of Governors and the General Conference). He has also been the Representative of the IAEA Director General to the United Nations in New York.

In addition, Mr Aning has a comprehensive background in the UN secretariat constituting many years of work in the areas of development and coordination. Mr Aning has a PhD in Metallurgy, a MSc in Solid State Physics, and a BSc in Mechanical Engineering.
