RER/9/096 Regional Project Plannning Meeting in Vienna

From 19-20 March 2009, the project RER/9/096 Strengthening National Infrastructures for the Control of Radiation Sources (TSA-1), (Phase II), will have a Regional Project Planning Meeting.

PURPOSE OF THE MEETING: The purpose of the meeting is to discuss and reach agreement on future activities related to improving the regulatory infrastructure for the safety and control of radiation sources in participating countries and harmonizing national capabilities for regulatory control in compliance with the requirements of the international Basic Safety Standards (BSS), the requirements of Legal and Governmental Infrastructure for Nuclear, Radiation, Radioactive Waste and Transport Safety (GS-R-1), and the provisions of the Code of Conduct on the Safety and Security of Radioactive Sources (Code of Conduct). in this region and also on a work plan for the regional project RER/9/096 for the years 2009 - 2011.

QUALIFICATIONS: The participants should be national counterparts or liaison officers mainly coming from regulatory bodies in the relevant Member States who have responsibility for TC planning activities (in particular for TC Project RER/9/096), experts with regulatory experience from technical support organizations may also be considered for this meeting.

NATURE OF THE MEETING: The planning meeting will consist of presentations on Member States’ implementation during the last 12 months of activities related to the former RER/9/092 (RER9096 for Phase II) and on the utilization of results and feedback from regional activities. In addition, the meeting will focus on MS’s needs to maintain regulatory competence and strengthen the effectiveness of the regulatory bodies in the period 2009 3 to 2011. In this context, meeting participants will discuss and identify new trends in the scope of this project and finally agree specific regional needs and new RER/9/096 activities for implementation in the new TC cycle 2009-2011. Participants should prepare short presentations on the above issues.
