Within the framework of the 53rd IAEA General Conference, the signing ceremony of the second Country Programme Framework (CPF) document of Côte d’Ivoire took place on16 September 2009 in Vienna. The CPF was signed by H.E. Léon Emannuel Monnet, Minister of Mines and Energy, Republic of Côte d’Ivoire and Ms Anna Maria Cetto, Deputy Director General, Head of the Technical Cooperation Department of the IAEA.
Côte d’Ivoire’s second CPF covers the period 2010-2015. It represents the frame of reference for the short-term and medium-term technical cooperation between Côte d’Ivoire and the International Atomic Energy Agency and will serve as a planning document for the next two technical cooperation programme cycles. This six-year planning document describes the country’s needs and priorities for which nuclear science and technology can make a significant contribution for Côte d’Ivoire socio-economic development. The focus of the programme is on human resources development, food and agriculture, human health and radiation safety, radioactive waste management and nuclear security.
This CPF has been developed following intensive consultations between the Agency and national competent authorities on the basis of a thorough analysis of the country’s needs regarding nuclear science and technology applications for the achievement of the national development objectives, and in particular those of the national strategy for the fight against poverty. The formulation of the present CPF took into consideration the achievements and lessons drawn from the implementation of the previous CPF (1997-2000) and the past and present technical cooperation activities.
