IAEA and regional partners meet in Tanzania and Burkina Faso to strengthen radiation protection

From 7-11 April, 2014, the IAEA facilitated a series of meetings to coordinate ongoing projects with its Member States in the African region. These meetings took place in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, respectively, and brought together nuclear experts, IAEA officials, and regulatory agents.

The meeting in Tanzania concerned an ongoing technical cooperation (TC) project. The project is supporting Member State efforts to minimize the incidence of radiation accidents among patients and medical professionals working in radiotherapy.

The meeting in Burkina Faso, also in support of an ongoing TC project, was held in order to better coordinate emergency preparedness and response plans throughout the African region.

In both cases, local television stations were in attendance.
