Staff Development Centre
The SDC is an integral part of the Staff Development Programme sponsored by the IAEA Division of Human Resources (MTHR). It provides assistance to staff members (and, to a limited extent, to their spouses) in making their own assessments regarding career options. It also provides guidance on the development of management and job skills, on adjustment to the working environment/life in Vienna and in the transition phase when leaving Vienna. The main services offered include:
- Workshops, seminars and training courses on various subjects such as leadership, change management and communication skills.
- Insight Series briefings to staff on the work of different IAEA Departments to increase awareness and knowledge about the Agency.
- Orientation courses for newcomers.
- Lunch-time sessions featuring presentations and facilitated discussions on diverse topics, including management, communication and teamwork. This includes a 'Topic of the Month', focusing on a particular theme.
- Access to material to supplement the courses offered by MTHR. The SDC has a collection of more than 800 titles in print, audio, video, DVD and multimedia software. The material covers a wide range of topics dealing with personal and professional development, management and leadership, language skills and issues of general interest.
- PC work stations for practising typing, browsing the Internet, etc., as well as an iMac as a new IT technology for work related to graphics and presentations.
Target Groups
New staff members: Information prior to arrival; an introduction handbook for newcomers to the Agency; orientation courses; language self-study material; additional information about the IAEA, the Vienna International Centre, Vienna and Austria.
Staff members on board: Counselling and advice on career development and mobility; courses and training programmes (for example on interviewing skills); a testing centre for the European Computer Driving License (ECDL); on-line training; leadership and training courses for managers.
Departing staff members: Outplacement programme (information on Vienna-based head-hunters); pre-retirement information (including a seminar for staff approaching retirement); alumni network for former and retired staff members.
Other groups: Information for spouses of staff members on sources for job hunting; recruitment tests for staff.
SDC Contact Information and Opening Hours
The SDC is located in room A0583 of the Vienna International Centre. It is open Monday to Friday from 11:00 to 15:00 hrs, as well as other hours by arrangement.
