Adama Diallo
studied the veterinary medicine in Toulouse from 1975 to 1979 after a master degree in biochemistry (1975, University of Paris VII). He obtained a certificate degree in tropical veterinary medicine in 1980 in IEMVT (Maisons-Alfort) and a certificate degree in fundamental virology in Pasteur Institute (Paris). After having completed a PhD on rabies virus (University Paris VII), he spent one year (1985) in Cirad-emvt on a postdoc position. One year later, 1986, he obtained a permanent position in the same institute. From 1996 to 2000, he was the head of the Virology Section in Cirad-emvt. Over the 16 years he has spent in that institue, he worked on the molecular biology of rinderpest (RP) and peste des petits ruminants (PPR) and on the development of tests for the specific diagnosis of these two diseases. He has developed the homologous PPR vaccine which is currently in use. He was member of the OIE biotechnology group and was also one of the OIE experts for PPR and rinderpest. From 1988 to 2000, he undertook many expert missions for FAO and FAO/IAEA joint division in Africa, Asia and the Middle East. In January 2001, he took up the Head of the Animal Production Unit position, FAO/IAEA Agriculture and Biotechnology Laboratory, the IAEA Laboratories in Seibersdorf.
