Gudni Hardarson
received his B.Sc. in Biology from the University of Iceland in 1974 and Ph.D. in soil microbiology from the University College of Wales in 1978. He conducted post-doctoral research for 2 years at the University of Minnesota on alfalfa improvement before joining the Soil Science Unit of the FAO/IAEA Agriculture and Biotechnology Laboratory in 1981. Since then he has been involved in research and training on the use of 15N methodology in microbial ecology and biological nitrogen fixation at the FAO/IAEA Laboratory and was appointed Head of the Soil Science Unit in 1997.
