David H. Byron obtained a B.Sc. in Food Technology – Food Industries Management from Colorado State University in 1975. From 1975-1977 he served as a U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer in rice production in the Republic of Benin, West Africa and began his career with the U.S. Department of Agriculture as a commodity grader for meat and meat products from 1978-1979. His duties with the Food Safety and Inspection Service of the USDA continued in Washington, D.C. as Supervisor of the Label Review and Approval Section of the Standards and Labelling Division from 1980-1986. From 1987-2002 Mr. Byron served with the Secretariat of the Joint FAO/WHO Codex Alimentarius Commission at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in Rome, Italy. He was appointed as Head of the Food and Environmental Protection Section in May 2003. |
