Erik Busch-Petersen obtained a B.Sc. (Honours) in Genetics & Cell Biology in 1979 and a Ph.D. in Zoology in 1983, both from Manchester University, UK. In 1982 he joined the Entomology Unit at the FAO/IAEA Agriculture and Biotechnology Laboratory in Seibersdorf, where he set up the Medfly Genetics Laboratory. In 1989 he transitioned to industry and joined Baxter Healthcare where he worked in various functions covering technical writing, clinical regulatory affairs, product and project management and marketing. In 1998 he became Director of Technical Marketing & Project Management of Baxter Vaccines and later of International Marketing (2000) and Global BioSecurity (2001). He returned to the IAEA in 2004 when he took up his present position as Head of the FAO/IAEA Agriculture and Biotechnology Laboratory, Seibersdorf, and Deputy to the Director of the Joint FAO/IAEA Division of Nuclear Techniques in Food and Agriculture. Erik is married to Alina and has three daughters. |
