GeoNetwork is meant to be a spatial information infrastructure, inclusive of data and metadata, being developed by FAO to improve access to, and integrated use of, spatial information.
GeoNetwork uses the Internet as an interoperable information exchange mechanism between UN Agencies, intergovernmental organizations and NGO’s and allows individuals and organizations
to visualize maps and related information. GeoNetwork datasets includes population density, infrastructure, administrative boundaries, land cover/use, soils, crop zones, water, fisheries and
forest resources, livestock distribution, nutrition profiles and early warning information. Geographic data, when downloadable from the site, is mainly available as shapefiles or ArcInfo grids.
