The contents of this CD

This CD contains the training package for the technique of using purine derivative excretion in the urine for the estimation of microbial protein supply to ruminants. The technique may be used as a useful tool in research to improve the utilization of local feed resources for ruminants.

This training package is developed as a follow-up application of the results of the FAO/IAEA Division's Coordinated Research Project : "Development, standardization and validation of nuclear based technologies for estimating microbial protein supply in ruminant livestock for improving productivity".

The contents of this CD:

A comprehensive coverage of the technical background of the technique and relevant research methodologies. It covers detailed procedures of experimental design, chemical analysis and result interpretation and presentation.

A utility package for the chemical analysis of purine derivatives and creatinine in urine. The utilities include templates and programs for the calculation and quality assurance of the data.

An in-depth review of the research on purine derivatives in ruminants up to the present date. Areas for future research are also highlighted.
