Ideal Fluid

Two forces act on a fluid in the absence of viscous and field forces: inertia and pressure forces. In this case the balance of forces in a control volume is given by:

(3.1)

Equation 3.1 is known as Bernoulli Equation and

p = pressure in the fluid

r = density

u = fluid velocity

Applying expression 3.1 for 2 different positions of a fluid flow gives:

(3.2)

Considering the flow as incompressible (r1 =  r2) we conclude that an increase in the flow velocity results in a pressure reduction.
