Report on Iran Nuclear Safeguards Sent to IAEA Board

IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei has circulated his latest report to the upcoming meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors on the Implementation of the NPT Safeguards Agreement in the Islamic Republic of Iran. Its circulation is restricted, and unless the IAEA Board decides otherwise, the Agency can not authorise its release to the public.

The report focuses on activities since 31 August 2006, the date of the Director General´s previous report. On 31 July, 2006 the Security Council (in resolution 1696) requested "by 31 August a report from the Director General of the IAEA primarily on whether Iran has established full and sustained suspension of all activities mentioned in this resolution, as well as on the process of Iranian compliance with all the steps required by the IAEA Board and with the above provisions of this resolution, to the IAEA Board of Governors and in parallel to the Security Council for its consideration.

The November report was circulated to the Agency´s Member States on 14 November 2006. The IAEA Board is scheduled to consider the implementation of safeguards in Iran at meetings beginning 23 November 2006 at the Agency´s headquarters.
