During a visit to the United States, IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano addressed both the International Studies Association's 54th Annual Convention, held in San Francisco on 5 April 2013, as well as the Carnegie International Nuclear Policy Conference, which convened in Washington, D.C. on 8 April 2013.

In his keynote address to the Carnegie International Nuclear Policy Conference, the Director General provided an overview of the Agency's work in non-proliferation, its support for nuclear-weapon-free zones, its work to verify nuclear disarmament and its nuclear security programme, which is aimed at preventing nuclear and other radioactive material falling into the hands of terrorists and other criminals. At the Carnegie International Nuclear Policy Conference, he then took part in a lively panel discussion with Mark Fitzpatrick, Director of the International Institute for Strategic Studies' Non-Proliferation and Disarmament Programme, and members of a capacity audience.

A video recording of the Director General's address and discussion with the audience can be seen on C-SPAN's website.
