The IAEA Board of Governors opened its second meeting of the year at the Agency's headquarters on 4 June 2012.
On Monday, Director General Yukiya Amano delivered his introductory statement. The full text of the statement can be accessed here.
During the week, the Board will discuss: the implementation of the IAEA Action Plan on Nuclear Safety; application of safeguards in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea; implementation of the NPT safeguards agreement and relevant provisions of United Nations Security Council resolutions in the Islamic Republic of Iran; implementation of the NPT safeguards agreement in the Syrian Arab Republic; the Safeguards Implementation Report for 2011; and the Annual Report for 2011.
The designation of members to serve on the Board in 2012-2013 will also be under consideration, as well as applications for membership to the Agency, and the Provisional Agenda for the September 2012 session of the General Conference.
