IAEA Director General to Travel to Iran
More Information Sought on Iran Nuclear Activities
Staff Report
13 October 2003
The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Dr. Mohamed ElBaradei, has today accepted an invitation from the Islamic Republic of Iran, to visit later this week. He will be accompanied by senior officials of the Agency.
As discussed with Iranian officials, the purpose of Dr. ElBaradei's visit would be for Iran to provide the IAEA during that visit with all the remaining information required to clarify important questions that are still outstanding about Iran's nuclear programmes. The Director General will report to the Agency's Board of Governors in November on the implementation by Iran of its NPT safeguards agreement.
