The third in a series of scientific reports on climate change and its effects was issued in early March. Experts meeting in Ghana in early March finalized a report on greenhouse gases. The report assesses options for limiting greenhouse gas emissions and otherwise mitigating climate change.

The reports are from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, a joint body of the World Meteorological Organization and United Nations Environment Programme. On 19 February, the IPCC released a study focusing on global warming's impacts in different regions of the world. A summary for policymakers is accessible on the IPCC Web site.

A companion report was released earlier this year. It confirmed the scientific consensus that the evidence for humanity's influence on the global climate is now stronger than ever before. Among its findings is that emissions of greenhouse gases and aerosols due to human activities continue to alter the atmosphere in ways that are expected to affect the climate.
