Securing Radioactive Sources
The IAEA, through its Office of Nuclear Security, supports its Member States' efforts to improve the security of nuclear and other radioactive materials in use or storage at medical and industrial facilities or power plants. This assistance stems from the recognition that there is a high risk that nuclear or other radioactive material could be used for malicious purposes. In April 2013, funds from the IAEA's Nuclear Security Fund were used to condition and securely store highly radioactive disused sources at the Philippine Nuclear Research Institute in Manila.
