Press Briefing at Close of IAEA Meeting on Protection Against Extreme Earthquakes and Tsunamis

Journalists are invited to a press briefing upon the adjournment of the International Experts' Meeting (IEM) on Protection against Extreme Earthquakes and Tsunamis in the Light of the Accident at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant on Friday, 7 September 2012, 11.30 CET in Boardroom A, M-Building, Vienna International Centre (VIC).

The briefing will be provided by Antonio Godoy, Argentina, Chair of the meeting, and the Heads of the IAEA Departments of Nuclear Energy, and Nuclear Safety and Security, Deputy Directors General Alexander Bychkov, and Denis Flory.

The IEM, 4-7 September 2012, convened by the IAEA under the framework of the IAEA Action Plan on Nuclear Safety, involved more than 120 experts and government officials from 37 countries. It discussed technical developments and research programmes in site evaluation and nuclear plant safety, particularly as they relate to extreme natural hazards such as earthquake and tsunamis.
