IAEA Director General Amano and Ambassadors to Break Ground for New IAEA Labs in Seibersdorf, 31 March 2010

IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano will host a ceremony to launch the construction of improved facilities at the Agency´s Laboratories Seibersdorf on Wednesday, 31 March 2010 at 10:00.

The ceremony will break ground at the site of the extension of the clean lab, a project that will enhance the IAEA´s safeguards abilities. This building is first in a series of laboratory modernization projects.

Director General Amano will make short remarks and then join diplomats in breaking ground at the construction site. He will not take questions or conduct a press conference. His statement will be released to journalists after delivery and posted on the IAEA website.

Journalists wishing to attend the ceremony should plan on parking at the main gate and walking 5-10 minutes to the ceremony site. The laboratory is approximately 60 minutes from Vienna by car, please contact Ms. Elizabeth Dobie-Sarsam at [43-1] 2600-21273 for directions.

Journalists are asked to display their VIC press credentials while covering the ceremony and to remain at the ceremony site. Logistical limitations mean there is no provision for journalists to tour the working labs on this occasion, but the IAEA Press Office is happy to receive requests for such visits at another time.
