Their Eyes Wept
As a boy Demba Dia remembers when rinderpest killed five of his father's six cows. Their milk was a primary source of his family's food. The cattle lay down and died within days, he said. Their eyes wept and their stomachs bled. What you see is bloody diarrhoea, wasting and death. The worst thing, Demba recalls, is that all the infected calves die.
